About the Event
We were proud to discuss the key GPCR’s Congress, which was held on the 29th & 30th October 2009 in Berlin, as well as the 2010 congress in Switzerland. The congress is the single most focused event in Europe dedicated to key technological and scientific trends in GPCR’s in the pharmaceutical, biotech industry as well as academic institutions.
G-protein coupled receptors have proven to be a highly amenable target class to successful therapeutic intervention via small-molecule drugs. GPCRs represent 25% of the total pharmaceutically-addressed drug targets today and therefore are the most-druggable target family.
This conference therefore explored effective strategies, technologies and applications of GPCR in accelerating drug targeting, discovery and early development. Over two days, the meeting attracted over 100 senior-level decision makers working in drug targeting, design, discovery and development from the UK, Europe and US. This prestigious event provides a forum for practitioners and researchers to learn more about key solutions being provided to their industry, network with their peers, and address key industry concerns through a series of cutting edge conference presentations in a professional yet relaxed environment, during a 2 day conference programme

Who We Missed:

Family Law, Divorce and Issues involving Social Security
It is good to be back from Seattle to see the attorney you know, Sometimes you discover that really you do not percieve the first thing about something which could seriously affect your life. For example, there is so much data out there and that has made things so much more complex overall. Here in Seattle that is a particularly big issue you know. One story by L.A. Times writer Kathy M. Kristof illustrates this fact very well:
She talks about the communications director for the Social Security Administration in Richmond, Calif., as saying that it can cost divorce people big time because they don’t know how spousal and survivor benefits work.
Kristoff reports that if you were married for at least 10 years to someone who paid into the Social Security system, you are entitled to a spousal benefit, whether or not still married, and it doesn’t matter whether you also worked and paid into the system or not. So divorce can hurt you in the pocketbook.
This much I was aware of; that spousal benefits, if you wait until your full retirement age, are usually half of the wage-earner’s full benefit. But it’s important to remember, Kristoff says, if you claim benefits early, the amount you will be less. Incidentially if in Seattle you may need an injury, insurance and a Dallas car accident lawyer who also does injury lawsuit cases. This Dallas car accident attorney may be able to assist in that regard.
Kristoff notes that, “If you worked for 10 years and paid into the Social Security system, you also may be entitled to benefits on your own work record……”
Visit the LA Times website and read Kathy M. Kristof’s full article. She writes about a particularly interesting situation that comes up with people around age 60. As an aside this is a top San Diego divorce lawyer if you are in the San Diego area.
Read the piece. It is really brief and to the point. She explains how 60 is a significant number to remember, because If you get married again before you’re 60, you lose your claim to spousal or survivor benefits based on a former spouse. If you marry after age 60, all of your rights to spousal and survivor benefits based on your former spouse’s record are retained for your lifetime. Divorce can reall hurt.
